Polytrack

Polytrack is a proven all-weather racing surface developed to deliver consistent, reliable performance across a wide range of climates and conditions.

Designed to replicate the root structure of turf, it provides predictable going that supports safe, competitive racing year-round. Its engineered composition offers excellent shock absorption and surface stability, helping to reduce fatigue and impact stress on horses. This consistency builds confidence for trainers, jockeys, and racecourse operators alike, even during periods of heavy use.

Widely adopted by racecourses and training centres globally, Polytrack is valued for its durability, low weather dependency, and ability to maintain performance standards with minimal disruption to racing schedules

Polytrack is constructed using a carefully balanced blend of synthetic fibres, rubber, and wax-coated sand. This combination creates a stable, cushioned surface that maintains uniformity across the track while allowing effective drainage and year-round usability.

The wax coating binds the materials together, helping to control moisture levels and eliminate dust. The result is a surface that requires no irrigation system, delivers consistent footing in all seasons, and supports high-speed performance with reduced maintenance demands.

The Polytrack system is engineered as a fully integrated racing surface, designed to replicate the root structure of turf while delivering consistent performance in all weather conditions.

Each layer works together to provide stability, controlled cushioning, and predictable going under high-speed use.
Extensive research, testing, and long-term racecourse data inform the design, ensuring the surface delivers reliable drainage, reduced surface movement, and uniform performance across varying climates and usage intensities.

What's included in Polytrack

Washed Silica Sand

Carefully graded, equestrian-quality silica sand forms the stable base of the Polytrack system. Industrial washing removes impurities, ensuring consistent particle size, reliable compaction, effective drainage, and predictable footing under racing and training conditions.

Synthetic Fibres

Specialist synthetic fibres are blended throughout the surface to reinforce structure and stability. These fibres bind the materials together, reduce surface movement, improve resilience, and maintain consistent performance during repeated high-speed use.

Equestrian-Grade Wax Coating

A proprietary equestrian-grade wax coating binds the surface materials, controlling moisture content and eliminating dust. This creates a cushioned, weather-resistant surface that performs consistently year-round without the need for irrigation.

What clients say
“The consistency and reliability of the Polytrack surface has transformed how we train and race. Performance remains stable in all weather conditions, giving trainers and owners confidence day after day.”
The Polytrack surfaces offer consistency, longevity and reliability. They are an essential part of Newmarket providing safe training facilities the year round.
NICK PATTON
Managing Director, Jockey Club Estates
"To be able to move last Sunday's Mother's Day meeting onto the new Polytrack after 70mls of rain on Thursday and Friday just shows how important these tracks are because that race meeting would have been lost. We wouldn't have been able to run on the turf. So, its proven its worth from day one. From a training perspective, it's a huge bonus for our trainers. It gives them the opportunity to work their horses in all weathers in a circular direction."
BALLARAT RACETRACK
Ballarat Turf Club Chief Executive Lachlan McKenzi
"Martin Collins Polytrack surface is a significant addition to Flemington's facilities. We are delighted with this important enhancement to our facilities, providing Flemington trainers with another world-class track to prepare their horses for raceday. Approximately 600 horses utilise Flemington's training facilities every day and it is vital they continue to be among the finest in Australia. This new track provides an all-weather year-round surface that enables us to hold jump outs when our grass training tracks are unavailable due to wet weather."
FLEMINGTON RACETRACK
VRC Chief Executive Officer Neil Wilson
"Polytrack works well at Hawkesbury where we have cold winters and hot summers. The general consensus is very positive with excellent feedback and the Polytrack is performing very well"
GREG RUDOLPH
CEO, Hawkesbury Race Club
"Horses are comfortable from their first gallop on Polytrack, they take very even strides, and they are not getting unbalanced and fatiguing on it which can cause injuries. "
ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE
Royal Randwick trainer Mark Newnham
"Randwick has always been a very good training centre but now it is by far and away the best training centre in Australia. It has now got a top-of-the-range artificial surface that allows horses to work in any type of weather, and importantly more safely. This gives us an opportunity to work horses appropriately without having to trial on a regular basis which is a win-win for owners. With the Polytrack you have the best and most safe surface to ensure your horses remain sound."
ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE
Royal Randwick Trainer John O'Shea
"The Melbourne Racing Club installed a Polytrack surface in January 2013. It has been universally accepted by all trainers and is the preferred surface for both slow and fast work. It has endured very wet conditions and extreme summer temperatures in excess of forty degrees Celsius and has presented an extremely forgiving and consistent surface regardless of climatic conditions. It has taken a huge workload off our turf tracks which has resulted in the economic benefits of reduced labor requirements. Overall the Martin Collins Polytrack is far superior to any other synthetic surface I have come across during my 25 years of Racecourse Management."
